SECOND SHOW DUE TO POPULAR DEMAND
Empress, the six-piece Naarm electro-soul collective, have curated a once-off, intimate yet epic performance at the Brunswick Ballroom on WEDNESDAY, October 29, joined by a 60-piece choir.
Best known for their high-energy electronic late-night sets at festivals such as Beyond The Valley, Dark Mofo, Sun Cycle and Strawberry Fields, Empress have curated a very different evening this October, one that places their signature vocal harmonies front and centre. Over the past four months, the band has led a free community choir of 60 local musicians and singers, rehearsing material together weekly in a gorgeous Thornbury church. The evening will begin with an interactive choir performance of diverse repertoire led by Grace Robinson, followed by an “unplugged” Empress set with the full choir as their backing vocalists.
With their sophomore album on the horizon and a big summer ahead including Strawberry Fields, Weaselstock and a headline show at Howler in January, this performance stands as both a passion project and a rare curation.
Harmonies have always been at the heart of Empress, but this time it will not just be their three lead singers, it will be sixty.
More about Empress:
Empress is one of Melbourne’s most electrifying neo-pop live acts, fronted by the powerhouse vocal trio of Grace Robinson, Stella Dunai, and Annalisa Fernandez. Joined by Noah Hutchinson on bass, Liam Rignanese on drums, and Christy Wozitsky-Jones on synths, Empress is a dynamic force built for the dance floor. Their sound fuses intricate three-part harmonies with electro-house and hip hop production, creating a genre-defying world that is equally inviting and surprising.
Following the success of their 2023 debut album Daughter—which earned national acclaim and landed “Grandma You Lie” at #3 on Triple J Unearthed’s Top 10—Empress has continued their momentum with the release of the double single Solace / Again Again, teasing a second album that's even more dance driven.
Known for lush harmonies, infectious melodies, and three distinct voices unlike any other in the Melbourne scene, Empress has lit up stages at Sun Cycle, Dark Mofo, St Kilda Festival, and PANAMA. They've also supported icons like Sampa The Great and Hiatus Kaiyote, earning a reputation for live shows that are as enchanting as they are explosive, dripping in energy and excitement.
