Although they emerged from Melbourne's bayside onto the local live scene only a year or so ago with their fresh and spirited indie-rock update of Easybeats, Kinks and early Beatles style garage-beat sounds, The Gnomes actually started out - as Gnome - as a bedroom solo project for teenage singer/songwriter/guitarist Jay Millar a few years back. Having now shared bills with the likes of ECSR, Drunk Mums, Skegss, Split System, Hockey Dad and The 5.6.7.8's, they've become an incredibly tight and dynamic live unit and one of the hottest bands in town. Already the subject of much advance attention on RRR and PBS, the band’s album, which is out November 7 (and entitled simply The Gnomes, despite it saying Introducing The Gnomes on the cover! ), captures perfectly their irresistible energy and their great songwriting, singing and playing. The record's explosive and authentic group sound perfectly balances a swinging '60s approach with a NOW vibe, and there's not a dud on it!
