Description
Fadi Mohem returns for a headlining set. Raised amidst Berlin’s graffiti culture, Mohem’s gritty, propulsive techno exudes a fearlessness and sense of danger. Drawing on the classic, brutalist forms championed by Basic Channel and the larger Chain Reaction/Hard Wax ecosystem, Mohem balances subtle shadings and a striking depth of field with an assured capacity for unmitigated, snarling energy. Paris’ Koboyo makes his debut. He’s a founder of the city’s EXIL, one of the hubs for outstanding techno in the French capital. Koboyo’s music burns bright. With a knack for true school techno, Koboyo pushes the mix to the edge with full-throttle power. The spirit is strong with this one. Meilgaarden makes her debut in BASEMENT after a string of standout sets in STUDIO. One of the brightest talents to emerge in NY over the last half decade, Meilgaarden’s mastery of liquid rave, scorching psy and delirious techno is a thrill to behold.
In STUDIO, an iconic trio steps up. Roi Perez, Partok and David Elimelech have bound their fates together with their singular Laundrette parties. Regularly held at Panorama Bar, the group’s curatorial acumen is matched only by the power of their extensive, sometimes 15 hour b3bs. All three are exemplary selectors in their own right, covering ground between the psychedelic, cheeky, euphoric and deep. Roi Perez is beloved for his kaleidoscopic approach, where eras of house history seem to fold in on themselves and find new expression and new life. Partok is the self-described “certified rave mom,” and his sets are indeed infused with a certain loving connoisseurship that envelops you like a warm hug. Elimelech is perhaps the most classic of the three, drawing on the effervescent bounce of swinging house and Hi NRG with unfettered aplomb.
