Description
Rene Wise returns to BASEMENT for a headlining set. A modern master of undulating, hypnotic techno, Wise has been issuing some of his best work over the last year on his Moving Pressure imprint. Across four essential EPs and counting, he’s distilled his vision to its most honed version. Subtle, thundering low-end, tight-yet-slippery synth lines and crisp percussion coalesce into a fascinating sound that draws you deeper and deeper into its shadowy, even sinister core. Spielraum resident Mary Lake makes her debut. A proponent of spacious, grooving techno, the Dutch-Algerian artist’s productions bristle with disciplined, psychedelic force. Her rigorous approach pays off in her capacity to build enveloping worlds that are as sensual as they are commanding. Holden Federico meets the moment with a dose of steely, timeless techno. Hewing closely to the genre’s most visionary iterations, Federico invokes techno’s radical essence.
Analog Soul takes the lead in STUDIO. The duo is a slow burn force of nature, with two of the finest house DJs in the country operating in near-telepathic tandem. Working with unwavering focus over decades, the Analog Soul project has grown to be something of an institution in its own right. DatKat and Jackie Sommer’s subtle craft, years of digging and gigging and ear for quality above all else sets them up as paragons of excellence and an inspiration for countless peers. Freeride Millenium co-founder Jorkes is back to harness the sleaze. The German artist brings a delectably cheeky sensibility to their productions, edits and sets, revelling in unbridled play and carefully-pitched subversion. Sister Zo is one of the more inventive producers in New York today. Her astute cross-genre fusions marry crafty techno with brain-melting bass music, taut syncopated rhythmic spirals and a luscious depth. Her recent return to Martyn’s 3024 with “The Purge” sees her in fierce form, delivering a batch of heavy, heady cuts that ooze with emotion.
