STATEMENT FROM ARTIST: I shot these photos September 16, 1995, at the Sylvan Theater in Washington, D.C., during Fugazi’s “Protest Against Cuts in Programs for D.C.’s Needy” on the grounds of the Washington Monument. I brought two rolls of film—one color, one black and white—and they remain my best work. What I love most is how clearly the fans’ faces and energy come through. As far as I know, these are the only photos from that performance. Though others had cameras and video footage exists, no other images have surfaced, according to the band’s site. I stashed the negatives in a shoebox, forgotten for 25 years, until I found them in 2020 while scanning family photos after my father’s passing. In an era when a fascist, Nazi sympathizer, traitor, felon, and rapist occupies the White House, Fugazi feels more vital than ever in 2025. Join me for the 30th anniversary of this performance at Metro Baltimore.
