Description
Unbound returns to Womb for our most ambitious exhibition yet. A night where rope, rhythm, and ritual intertwine. Under an artistic collaboration with House of Malakai, Unbound will transform the venue into a living mandala of performance and sound: shibari at the scale of theater with Hajime Kinoko, and driving techno carried by a carefully curated lineup. Across 3 floors, our team of 40+ artists will take you on an audio-visual journey of the likes you have never seen.
Our theme is Mandala: A symbol of wholeness, cyclical time, and a map of inner and outer worlds. We treat Mandala as a living blueprint for spatial choreography, performance sequencing, and the communal experience you’ll share through the night.
This chapter revolves around an evolving body of work by Kinoko. Across the night, Kinoko’s live installation and a collaborative dance/shibari performance with QQQ unfold in conversation with the music and the audience. Unbound resident artists and performers, as well as a host of new faces, will drive the nights narrative arc and deepen the interplay between visual ritual and sonic momentum. Expect eclectic performances and experimental techno, expect the unexpected.
Main Floor: Peak-time alchemy from Shufflemaster, SuperUser, Lisa Mizuno, and Phillipe Esling, woven around featured performances by Hajime Kinoko, Tokyo QQQ, Malakai, Hidden Layer Show, KIKICAT, Sayako Shiratori, SIVA, SeiRa, Zaqi, DotTV and more
First Floor (Live/Instrumental): Back-to-back live electronic and instrumental musicians score a series of audiovisual exhibits, creating an explosive gallery of sound in motion. Musical Performances from Chapa, Keigo Tanaka, Kojiro × Yoshitaka, Svizmo, Tonbo and more, and performances by Iness, RIKA, RIOTAROS, marimosphere, and international Shibari artist LAODAI.
Installation: An interactive art installation by Artem of Intergalactic Festival anchors the night’s visual language.
Fourth Floor: A survey of Tokyo’s underground and more international talent across hypnotic, driving, and experimental techno. Performances from Maca, Mary is on Acid, Portal. Additional artists to be announced.
About Unbound: Unbound is a groundbreaking concept, at once a performance, but also a party. Our mission is to share the underground Japanese art form of Shibari in a way that captures the imagination and opens your minds to new states of being. We harmoniously combine music and art to create a sensual journey that enhances the complex beauty of Shibari. This is more than bondage. This is a choreographed journey of the human body and the altered mind. These new and exciting experiences can be experienced together in a safe and social environment that emphasizes friendship over friction and intimacy over isolation.
We are a non-profit initiative that invests all revenue back into quality artistic performances to both grow the artistic community whilst introducing our audience to a new world of sound and vision. We are also a platform for promising artists to gain a foothold in the world of music and dance by sharing fresh ideas and learning from recognised virtuosos/ experts. This is a space where boundaries are to be broken and collaborations are encouraged.
