Brandon Koolloos is an emerging songwriter based in Naarm, Melbourne. A piano player and singer, he speaks through a neuro-diverse view of life as a young adult in Melbourne, to the backdrop of music inspired by the Piano Rock era of the 70s-90s (Billy Joel, Elton John). Born on the Northern Beaches of Sydney, and learning piano at the age of 5, his introduction to songwriting came through mistaking Billy Joel's "The Stranger" CD for a computer game - imagine the 7 year old's surprise when Movin' Out (Anthony's Song) started blasting - who knew it would have such an impact on him?
Bring on the next 20 years and Brandon has sought out as much performance experience possible. As a teen, a graduate of the NSW Talent Development Project (2017) and learning songwriting skills from Australian songwriting legends including the likes of Ray Thistlethwayte (Thirsty Merc) and Felicity Urquhart. In his early adult life, moving to Melbourne to study a BFA of Musical Theatre at the Victorian College of The Arts (2019) and perfecting the art of engaging live audiences and connecting to the core of storytelling, which has become a staple of his songwriting.
His commitment to music is rising everyday and his will for the return of the Piano/Rock genre is reaching boiling point. He recently performed a sold out run of a musical he wrote about living with undiagnosed ADHD, "Executive Functioner" (2024) and is currently in session recording his debut album.
