Description
FIST hits September with a fearsome lineup. The Advent - one of the true pioneers of ‘90s techno and electro - returns to the room for a headlining set. Since the project’s first transmissions, The Advent has been on another level. Matching the feverish power of Detroit, The Advent’ productions brought their own signature: a dark cyberpunk aesthetic balanced with an immaculate funk. Grab any track at random from the early Kombination Research series and you’ll find a timeless entry in the canon. Over three decades, The Advent has never stopped pushing the vision forward, always finding new ways to ratchet up the intensity. Ne/Re/A meets the moment with undeniable rigor. A mainstay of the New York underground, Ne/Re/A’s tracks seize the moment with coursing, harrowing power. The title of one of her EPs says it best: “Time to Burn.” Residents Word of Command and DJ Clone complete the picture. Their taste for brutality is matched only by their sense of the subversive and perverted. One listen to this month’s debut release on their newly christened FIST label sees their curatorial prowess in peak form.
Sally C makes her debut. The Belfast-born, Berlin based brings a raw, infectious house energy that borders on the delirious. She matches a serious craft with an unabashed irreverence, as evidenced by her label name: Big Saldo’s Chunkers. But Sally C’s productions are indeed worthy of that description; there’s a pumped up, bass-weighted and, yes, chunky vibe that is absolutely winning. Resistance is futile. X-Coast operates in a related lane. Throbbing, rave-tinged house of the most joyful order is his trademark. A veteran of the underground, X-Coast brings more than a dash of sly humor to his art, and it’s entirely welcome. Take his track “Desert Storm,” which nods to the infamous “Sandstorm” anthem of the same name while also evoking the perilous geopolitics that hover in the background of every rave. All delivered with a wink and a smile. DJ Miss Parker pushes it to the limit, every time. One of the key figures in the modern NY landscape, Miss Parker’s unflinching experimentation has taken her to every corner of dance music, from hardstyle to house.
