Description
For this edition of Wrecked, Ron Like Hell and Ryan Smith take their reins in BASEMENT with an all-night b2b. The pair’s ethos could not be more well matched. For well over a decade, Wrecked has been a standard setter for music-first queer club nights. Emerging at a time when that was a rarity in NY, the duo’s uncompromising taste and love of dance music history set them on a path that would help to shape the modern underground we see today. Their techno sets can be seismic affairs, drawing on the genre’s wildest iterations and freakiest manifestations.
Kilopatrah Jones returns to Wrecked. The word “soul” gets thrown around a lot when describing her music, but what else is there to say? Jones’ taste for jazzy keys, swung drums, breezy grooves and iconic vocals is the very embodiment of the term. A party starter par excellence, Jones serves up a classic vibe with genuine love. Toronto’s Karim Olen Ash makes his debut. The organizer behind the Pep Rally party series, his curatorial acumen has brought some of the most essential voices to the city. As an artist, Olen Ash channels the rich, hedonistic pleasures of timeless house and disco, with at times an evocative, dreamy depth. New Orleans’ Phlegm also makes his debut. Tapping into a fertile and naughty vein, Phlegm isn’t afraid to hit the dancefloor where it hurts. True to his name, there’s a bit of joyous confrontation and boundary pushing in his sets, which he describes as "sunshine with a lil' bit of attitude".
