Description
DJ TOOL returns to BASEMENT, joined by Kancheli and Kim Ann Foxman. DJ TOOL finds seemingly endless pockets of vibrancy in the space between take-no-prisoners techno, swirling rave and trance-y, psy-infused progressive strains. A master selector, the Mala Junta resident keeps dancers on their toes. His sets can drift into hazy psychedelia, driving power and even cheeky futurism. But no matter the lane he chooses, it always comes together as something fresh, energetic and elevated. Kancheli’s taut, rigorous techno has made him a mainstay in BASEMENT. A resident of Bassiani, he helped bring the room to ecstatic highs as part of the now-legendary b4b with NDRX, Fadi Mohem and Philippa Pacho. But his solo sets are no less captivating. Kancheli’s command of the hypnotic and twisting is on another level. Kim Ann Foxman keeps the energy at a fever pitch. One of New York’s finest, Foxman’s sets are imbued with the synthetic promise of the ‘80s, the acid fever of the ‘90s and the immersive depth of our modern era. Whatever she plays, it feels like a classic.
Gabrielle Kwarteng pumps it up with some muscular, timeless house. The former NYC native has become an international sensation on the strength of her deeply rooted approach. A set from Kwarteng brings out all the best aspects of the genre: raw, jacking drums, thick basslines, gritty analog effects and shimmering jazzy flourishes. She makes it look so easy, you wonder why more people don’t play the way she does. But that’s the thing. Sometimes the simplest move is the hardest to master. Maricas founder ISAbella is back, matching Kwarteng’s groove with a hard-driving momentum. Though at times more reflective, ISAbella is renowned for her roiling, energetic intensity. A ceaseless force in the underground, her journey from community organizer to a significant international presence has seen her move from strength to strength without sacrificing one ounce of authenticity. Ian Crane seals the deal with some serious rave-infused bliss. He is one of the most consistent voices of STUDIO, exemplifying the ethos of the room with intuitive clarity.
