In the ever-evolving landscape of music, one name is making waves that you won’t want to miss - RUBII. Hailing from a background deeply rooted in music, this UK-based artist is making her mark with a unique blend of hip-hop, neo-soul, and RnB.
RUBII’s music is more than just a melody; it’s a journey. Her signature intimate and harmonizing vocals draw you in, creating an atmosphere that’s both nostalgic and contemporary. Grounded, rhythmic, and soulful, RUBII’s lyrics feel like a conversation at a cosy gathering, making you feel like an insider, privy to her deepest thoughts. Tracks like “BOTB” and “Fool” showcase RUBII’s ability to fuse genres effortlessly, delivering music that’s as catchy as it is thought-provoking. “Fool” in particular, stands out with its punchy, garage-soul fusion and a hint of Gen-Z attitude, a testament to her versatility as an artist.
From Chicago’s South Side, music artist Shawnee Dez intently engages her audience, encouraging energy exchanges first and foremost. Dez is concerned with ancestral knowledge and performance as an opportunity to channel from and communicate with the past, present, and future. In her 2025 single, Lullabye the Fire, Dez confronts the split nature of being an artist, creating during a time of mass destruction and confusion. Utilizing harmonic layering, a fusion of live instrumentation and digital production, and her dynamic, multi-ranged alto melodic voice, she paints a vivid picture. Dez is a self-taught sound healer who utilizes the wisdom of ancient instruments such as singing bowls, shakers, the gong, and her voice to promote full-body healing.
When off the stage, Shawnee’s work centers on creativity and community advocacy. She activates spaces such as SUG N JAM Open Mic, allowing participants to express themselves unapologetically. In June 2020, Shawnee organized the first mass Juneteenth Black JoyRide bike ride, a critical mass demonstration through Chicago’s Metropolitan area. This ride was born as a symbol of liberation and mobility, attributes Dez often speaks of in her music.
