We've done a lot over the past seven years. We've spotlighted singers, producers, and songwriters—sometimes more than once. We've zoomed in on the impact certain cities and, in one instance, an entire state have had on R&B. We've always agreed that there is no idea too big or small, no concept too ambitious for us to tackle. So this month, we've decided to go global. R&B music has never exclusively been a Black American art form. The diaspora has taken it all over the world, just as it dispersed Black people in various locations. Soul ll Soul's fusion of R&B, new jack swing, and house originated in London. We hope you knew Sade was formed there, but what about Heatwave or The Brand New Heavies? And that's just the UK: Deborah Cox is from Toronto; Tamia is from Windsor. Come prepared to talk about all of this and more on Sunday, July 13 from 12-2pm.
