Mississippi Studios is proud to present the first ever Mississippi Meltdown - a summer showcase featuring 4 of the best up-and-coming bands in Portland.
Les Gold:
Les Gold is a 4-piece outfit based in Portland, OR known for mixing homegrown, Northwest indie rock with elements of dream pop, desert rock, surf, folk, and other influences to create a sound that’s been playfully dubbed ‘bummer fun’. Since releasing their first EP in 2018, the band have become regional favorites in the Pacific Northwest – amassing millions of streams and playing for big room audiences, festivals, and alongside acts like Franz Ferdinand, Young the Giant, and more.
In 2025, the band prepares for a college tour across the west coast, the release of their debut album, and multiple festival appearances. Playful, upbeat, somber, introspective, and undeniably catchy – Les Gold’s unique sounds are a reflection of bits and pieces of all of us.
Les Gold is proudly sponsored by Benson Amps, 64 Audio, Secret Aardvark Hot Sauce, and Montucky Cold Snacks.
Sun Atoms:
Portland’s psychedelic gaze-wave band Sun Atoms return with their sophomore album Everything Forever, out November 8 via Little Cloud Records. Featuring guest appearances by Isaac Brock (Modest Mouse), Jasno Swarez (The Vandelles), and Lauren Andino (Tremours), the album is a cosmic, genre-blurring journey from mind to heart. Produced by Peter G. Holmström (The Dandy Warhols) and mixed by legendary engineer Jagz Kooner (Primal Scream, The Chemical Brothers), the record was crafted at Kooner’s Stone Circles Studios in Avebury Henge and mastered by Keith Tenniswood (Spiritualized). The band—led by Jsun Atoms and featuring a dynamic lineup of multi-instrumentalists—recently released the surreal video for "Narco Polo," described as “a dada ice cream party inside a Salvador Dali painting.”
Jakki and the Pink Smudge:
Jakki and the Pink Smudge, lovingly referred to as "Smudge," is an indie-rock firecracker making waves in the local Portland, OR music scene. The band’s multifacetedness has cultivated a strong presence in the Portland, Los Angeles, and Houston music scenes, playing alongside artists such as Mavi, The Aquadolls, and Never Ending Fall. The band gets its charming name from the inevitable smudging of Jakki’s lipstick while performing. With every smear, Jakki and The Pink Smudge continues to emote their own distinctive, moving, and peachy sound.
The band blends indie-punk-funk and fuzz rock with a peachy, vibrant edge. Their sound is a dynamic fusion of gritty riffs, punchy grooves, and dreamy textures, echoing their strong influences in the bold energy of No Doubt, the atmospheric depth of Radiohead, and the lo-fi charm of Galaxie 500 and PACKS.
