Lia Booth
One of Southern California’s most captivating young jazz vocalists, Lia Booth is quickly establishing herself as a powerful and beloved voice in today’s jazz scene. With performances that are equal parts playful, heartfelt, and soulfully swinging, Lia breathes fresh life into the jazz standards of the past with a distinctly modern flair and fearless musicality. Her voice—radiant and expressive—carries the wisdom of a bygone era while inviting listeners into something wholly new.
Lia’s roots in jazz were nurtured in two of California’s most acclaimed collegiate vocal jazz ensembles: Singcopation (Mt. San Antonio College, Bruce Rogers, Director) and Pacific Standard Time (Cal State Long Beach, Christine Guter, Director). These experiences brought her to prestigious stages such as the Monterey Jazz Festival, studio recording projects, and earned her two DownBeat Magazine Outstanding Soloist Awards.
Over the last 15 years, Lia has become a familiar and sought-after presence in top jazz venues across Los Angeles, Orange County, and the Inland Empire. She has worked alongside both the region’s rising jazz talents and revered legends—including Arturo Sandoval, Jeff Goldblum and the Mildred Snitzer Orchestra, Tony Guerrero, and Crystal Lewis.
Critics and audiences alike have taken notice:
“If Billie Holiday and Anita O’Day decided to raise a child together, her name would be Lia Booth… with a bit of Lena Horne and Sarah Vaughan thrown in as the beloved ‘aunts’ of this child.”
— Shelly Gallichio, The Syncopated Times
“She has been mesmerizing audiences around Southern California and in the process has become one of the most appreciated singers among musicians—a much more cynical audience. Her vocal tone, sense of swing, phrasing, and undeniable mastery of harmony and scat singing have made her a force to be reckoned with.”
— Jerry Mandel, Irvine Barclay Theatre
“One of the very best on the scene today… There’s a consistent smile in her singing, and both her phrasing and inventive scat-singing are quite swinging.”
— Scott Yanow, Jazz Historian
Whether fronting a big band, a swinging quartet, or crafting an intimate moment with just piano and voice, Lia Booth delivers jazz that connects—timeless, effortless, and alive.
