Nourished By Time is the musical project of Baltimore-born artist Marcus Brown, who’s emotionally
charged blend of post-punk, New Wave, R&B, electro-funk, and experimental indie pop reflects a deeply
personal and sharply observational voice, as captured on his breakout debut releases Erotic Probiotic 2
(2023) and Catching Chickens (2024). A Metamodernist, Brown crafts music that is as soulful as it is
subversive – tackling themes of love, labor, existentialism, dreams, disillusionment, and hope. This
summer Nourished By Time will release his first full-length album on XL Recordings titled The Passionate
Ones. Crafted between Baltimore, London and NYC, The Passionate Ones is a sermon, a twelve-track
catharsis, howled from the underbelly of late-stage capitalism, written, produced, mixed and sung
entirely by Brown.
Initially created in Los Angeles' Koreatown in late 2019, Nourished By Time emerged as Brown's escape
from the monotony of his day jobs, channeling his experiences into songwriting, developing the
dreamlike, uncanny sound that would come to define Nourished by Time. Marcus' first project - Erotic
Probiotic – came in the form of a two-song EP via London indie label Scenic Route which was quickly
followed up by the critically acclaimed breakout debut album Erotic Probiotic 2. Picking up Pitchfork's
'Best New Music' upon release, it went on to feature on 'Best Of 2024' lists on Gorilla vs Bear (#1),
Pitchfork (#5), The Guardian, The FADER, Paste, and more. In the same year, Brown collaborated with
Yaeji on "Happy" off her debut album With A Hammer and remixed Dry Cleaning's "Gary Ashby," while
also supporting them on a 20-stop North American tour.
2024 would go on to be a transformative year for Nourished By Time. Signing to XL Recordings, he
released Catching Chickens - a five-track EP inspired by the iconic scene in Rocky where his trainer
makes him chase and catch a flock of chickens as a test of agility. The record saw him land the cover of
CRACK Magazine - who declared "Hell Of A Ride" their track of 2024 - and feature in 'Best of 2024' lists
with the likes of NPR, Pitchfork, The FACE Magazine, Resident Advisor, CLASH, Mixmag, Gorilla vs Bear,
and UPROXX. "Hell of a Ride" also featured in Spotify's Best Songs of 2024, and Brown delivered a
memorable performance of the track on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert’s #LateShowMeMusic live
series.
In the same year, Nourished By Time erupted across the live circuit, performing his first North American
headline tour across 13 stops and a UK headline tour, selling out Bowery Ballroom (New York), Echoplex
(Los Angeles) and ICA (London). He also expanded his collaborative projects, working with artists Kacy
Hill and Metronomy, solidifying his position as one of contemporary music's most intriguing voices.
Zsela (pronounced ZHAY-la) is an artist and musician from Brooklyn whose work seamlessly fuses experimental pop, folk-inspired ballads, and electronic music. With a voice described as "emotive yet elusive" by The New York Times, Zsela’s subtle yet magnetic vocal delivery, paired with haunting and spare production, captivates listeners and creates an emotional landscape that resonates deeply.
Her debut single, “Noise,” was followed by her self-released EP, Ache of Victory, in 2020, created in collaboration with producer Daniel Aged. The EP's introspective sound set the stage for her debut album, Big For You, released in 2024 on Mexican Summer. The album reveals lush, sparse textures that emphasize expansive tension and release, unfolding in ways that create narratives lingering in the listener's consciousness long after they've been experienced.
Known for her dynamic live performances, Zsela has graced the stages of iconic venues including The Kitchen, the Whitney Museum, MoMA PS1, and Carnegie Hall. With a powerful voice and an authentic presence, she continues to carve her own distinctive place in the music world, offering a sound that is both modern and timeless, soulful and experimental.
