Description
This mutual aid fundraiser is raising funds for Food Fıght, a group of self-organized individuals who provide weekly hot meals for the Bushwick community in front of the Jefferson Shelter every Wednesday and Sunday. In addition to their food distribution, Food Fıght has raised funds and offered support for community members experiencing various hardships and are working to expand their operations and build a long-term, sustainable operation.
**NOTAFLOF (no one turned away for lack of funds) at the door if cost is a barrier to attendance, but donations of any amount very appreciated!**
The event will begin with a panel discussion from 8 to 9 pm, “Working Within & Outside the System.” As we work to build better worlds and dream of what’s next, how do we relate to the systems and institutions that already exist? How and when do we work within these systems, work against them, or make use of their resources without compromising our integrity? Can we practice the skills to work toward our biggest visions within institutions? When is it worth working to repair or reform systems, and when do we tear it all down?
Panel Discussion: “Working Within & Outside the System”
Arash Diba (moderator, VOCAL NY)
Yonah Zeitz (DJs Against Apartheid, Katal Center)
Omar Ahmad (Pioneer Works, Ūmboma)
Ali Jaffry (NY Cultural Solidarity Project)
Following the panel, stick around for DJ sets exploring the psychedelic, strange, and abstract side of techno – music to sit with discomfort, to imagine new realities, to face dystopia and manifest something better. We’re not here to escape, we’re here to process the hard things and recharge our energy for whatever is next.

Accessibility:
The wheelchair entrance to our indoor space is in the driveway, which is the access point most commonly used to enter Nowadays. During parties the driveway gate is locked, so please ask staff at the street entrance for assistance with entry.
All of our bathrooms are gender-neutral. There is one accessible stall indoors. Just ask any Nowadays staff member for the key, and they can show you the way. During parties, seating is available both on and off the dance floor. While we don’t have a dedicated quiet space indoors during parties, the booths next to coat check are a little quieter, and the deck and back yard a little quieter than that. Most nighttime parties include the use of strobe lights and water based haze.
