Description
Marcel Fengler returns after a year away. The Berlin honcho is a master of muscular, precision-tooled techno loaded to the brim with taut basslines, spring-loaded kick drums and immaculate distortion. His releases & curation on his own IMF are in perfect stride with the modern generation, bringing in some of the best in avant garde techno today. There isn’t a moment wasted where Fengler is concerned; he taps straight into the genre’s dark, molten core. Mamba Negra resident Amanda Mussi harnesses the power of gritty and grooving techno. A major force in her home country of Brazil and an artist of international renown, her ethos is well-reflected in her most recent release; “The Dark Side of the Soul” oozes with psychedelic, roiling power. KYRUH is, of course, one of the key figures to emerge from the NY underground over the last five years. An artist with a penchant for concussive warehouse sounds, KYRUH’s vital musicality and ruthless timing leaves dancers staggering. As she says on her SoundCloud, “I’ll make you put ya phone down”
Analog Soul matches Fengler & co’s power with a deft hand. The pair’s decades in the NY house underground gives their sleek, rolling sets a level of depth and weight that cannot be manufactured or faked. Heavy but nimble, intense but loose and always righteous, Analog Soul embodies the promise of their name with a hard-earned warmth and a soulful kick. Launderette co-founder David Elimelech returns to STUDIO. A true house head, Elimelech calls back to the core of the genre with an easy, joyous sense of play. His event series, which he organizes with Roi Perez and Partok, has become one of the premier queer events in Berlin, offering a revitalizing freshness to a city that’s seen it all. Elimelech always elevates the mood at STUDIO, mixing hedonism with elegant refinement. Jeffrey Sfire is a kindred spirit, with a long and storied history in the US queer underground. He’s one of the greats to channel the spirit of disco into an expansive, boundless practice that’s in constant evolution.
