Description
ABOV is the newborn FLINTA* NYC collective led by DJ Volvox and Dominga (aka Follakzoid).
ABOV is a safe space created by FLINTA* for FLINTA*, for all the beauties that have ever been harassed, discriminated against or worse just for being themselves.
FLINTA* is an umbrella term representing female, lesbian, inter*, non-binary/enby, trans*, and agender people.
For the opening of the night in our MAIN ROOM we hand the honors to one of New York’s favorite new divas, Vile! Driven by an unstoppable passion for innovation, the Colombian-born DJ and producer crafts immersive audio experiences that captivate and provoke, skillfully blending intense rhythms with industrial textures and dark, compelling melodies.
Following the opening set we will dive in with A lana, a Brooklyn based DJ, producer and designer with a sharp & heady vinyl-first approach. Having scoured for records in every corner of the country, her tastes combine thoughtful cues from the past with timeless visions of the future. An archivist at heart, she has a style steeped in the tradition of storytelling and her sets create a quilt of tested rave & party sounds.
Volvox & Dominga is a new DJ project that combines mind-bending techno rhythms with live sample & experimentalism drawing from a fountain of sonic digital and concrete imagination and ambient. Across the globe the name DJ Volvox has become synonymous with surgical mixing technique and a certain square-shooting, take-no-prisoner approach towards dance floor business. Here she joins forces with Sacred Bones artist and renowned trans icon, Dominga of the cult band Follakzoid who brings an otherworldly sense of improvisation and encyclopedic music knowledge that reveals the deepest gems from our collective unconscious. Their transportive sets at Basement here in New York and RSO Berlin have set the stage for a new dimension in techno, one that continues to intrigue with its deep pulsating aliveness.
Rose Kourts is a Brooklyn-based DJ and Lot Radio resident who has built a reputation for always understanding the assignment - delivering barnstorming sets to every dancefloor she touches with an undeniable energy and sharp intuition. Her eclectic selections blossom and bloom across eras and moods with pulsing techno and house, crunchy acid and electro, psychedelic rave and trance, and many a cheeky curveball. Whether commanding a packed warehouse, an intimate club, or an open-air stage, she draws on the legacies established by Black and queer pioneers of electronic music and the energies of her namesake gemstone, leaning into the power of music as a tool to move bodies and minds into delight and release. We can’t wait to see what she has in store for our epic closing.
HUMIDITY RISES as we arrive at our sultry second room lineup. There we will be bathed in steamy alternative beats and cold wave rhythms, providing the perfect soundtrack to our safe and sexy intimacy area.
Johanna Constantine began DJing in NYC in the early 90’s. A visual chameleon and style icon, countless residencies and sets later she is still mutating. Co-founder the Blacklips Performance Cult and artistic partner to Anohni and the Johnsons, Johanna’s sets reach audiences from Fold London to LA’s Neotropolis festival, Dances of Vice and Synthicide. Expect darkness at the disco!
Sissies of Mercy is the back-to-back collaboration between longtime best friends Sam & Austen. Born out of their love for dancing together, their sound as a duo balances playful nostalgia and raunchy darkness to command a sweaty dancefloor. Weaving together diva-fueled house, sparkly 80’s pop, nasty acid, and cheeky electro, Sissies’ sets create shared moments of freedom and transcendent joy fueled by love and light. Between their residency at Gabriela, frequent sets at Brooklyn institutions such as Paragon, House of Yes, Bossa Nova Civic club, and at least one gig basically everywhere else, Sissies are forging a path for TS world domination.
If you attend our events and you are not FLINTA* remember where you are at all times and that this is a space created for us that you may enjoy and support respectfully.
