Description
We've done duos before, even songwriting and production duos, but they've been formally recognized as such. Perhaps you don't think of Johntá Austin and Bryan-Michael Cox as a team—which is fine, but there's a connection we're going to highlight right along with their individual work.
Both Austin and Cox began making names for themselves on their own: Austin was producing for Tyrese and Aaliyah as a teenager, while Cox was producing for the group Ideal. As the sound of R&B changed during the 2000s, their paths crossed in Atlanta when they became in-house writers for So So Def Recordings, joining Jermaine Dupri's stable of talent. Some of their best work, together and separately, was featured on Mariah Carey's The Emancipation of Mimi, which we just talked about last month. And better yet, both are still making music today.
Join us on Sunday, May 18 at Songbyrd from 12-2pm. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. Don't sleep: these two are responsible for several hits people will want to hear and discuss, in great detail.

The R&B Club is a cultural gathering founded in 2018 that discusses the influence of R&B music. In other words, think of it as a musical book club-style meetup. Follow us on social media at @therandbclubdc for more information.
