Description
Get ready to bust the conventions of the post-punk genre wide open on May 29 as Damaged Disco welcomes System Exclusive, Agender, and Artificial Go to the Gold-Diggers stage!
Nomadic California duo System Exclusive are back in the van, carry(ing) on spreading upbeat synth-powered dream punk all over these beleaguered United States. After 275 shows in two years across 16 different countries, these road pups just can't shake the feeling they need to be swinging through your town and singing for the cheap seats. Their latest release "Click" (a split release between Le Cepe Records in Paris, France and Mt St Mtn in Sacramento, CA) laced their mad scientists lab of bleeping and buzzsawing synthesisers with barbed wire guitars, anchored by the powerful pulse of live drums. Atop it all, Ari's powerhouse alto, tough and tender by turns, drives the songs into emotional overdrive. For maximum results, wear dancing shoes and dress to kill.
Agender: Existential terror hurrah, snappy synthy, punchy post-punk! Their latest album Berserk embodies the chaos of an era when nothing feels stable, where the self is both the center of its own universe and being sucked into the disorienting orbit of hyper-connected, hyper-consumptive culture. Berserk delivers the kind of eclectic, electric energy that traverses through the plains of pop-punk, post-punk, disco-punk, and schizo-synth-punk, and bites hard and fast, all while pushing the listener to confront the gnawing absurdity of living in the world today.
Artificial Go is a new four piece hailing from the DIY post-punk scene of Cincinnati, Ohio. Local labels Feel It and Future Shock have teamed up to co-release Artificial Go's debut album, Hopscotch Fever. Artificial Go is operating out of their own genre - not quite post-punk, not quite pop. Hopscotch Fever seems to have been recorded just outside of the collective-genre-periphery to form some sort of extraterrestrial kind of music. With angular guitar breaks, bouncing rhythms, and jolting vocals, Artificial Go is truly here on their own terms.
With resident DJ DAT68 spinning minimal wave, dark disco, industrial, and post-punk.
Damaged Disco night is a monthly event with live performances of minimal synth and post-punk artists curated by the Damaged Disco label, happening on the last Thursday of each month at Gold-Diggers. Follow @damaged\_disco for updates!
