Saturday April 5th at 1pm, author and music journalist Liz Pelly will discuss her new book Mood Machine: The Rise of Spotify and the Costs of the Perfect Playlist. An unsparing investigation into Spotify’s origins and influence on music, Mood Machine weaves unprecedented reporting with incisive cultural criticism, illuminating how streaming is reshaping music for listeners and artists alike. Pelly will be joined in conversation by NPR Music critic and correspondent Ann Powers, who in an early review, called Mood Machine an exhaustive exploration of "many aspects of Spotify's impact, from its tricky 'pro rata' economics to the pseudoscientific therapeutics of 'chill'" and said that "Pelly picks up every piece of the streaming puzzle and places it in perfect context."
