Description
Following the 10th anniversary of his groundbreaking album "In the Moment," which established him as a leading voice in jazz and beat-driven music, Makaya McCraven returns with a new album on International Anthem this summer.
Building on the success of his acclaimed 2022 recording "In These Times," the project features longtime peers like Marquis Hill and Junius Paul alongside new collaborators.
The album finds McCraven continuing to push his sound forward, staying true to his approach of reshaping and re-contextualizing music in new and unexpected ways.
Opening is fellow International Anthem royalty SML. Anna Butterss, Jeremiah Chiu, Josh Johnson, Booker Stardrum, Gregory Uhlmann is a quintet based out of Los Angeles, a veritable supergroup of prolific composers & producers delving deep into a hyperrealist, collectivist approach to creation.
A performance from SML is a unique thing, often entirely improvised, such is the level of their connection and their powers of communication. Fluid, propulsive, freeform, exuberant, intricately polyrhythmic, the band paint a magical, incomparable tapestry of ideas, sitting somewhere amongst Joe Chambers' solo work, Squarepusher, Gang of Four & Brian Eno. Their second album is set to drop just a few days after this show.
Presented by Serious.
This is a 14+ event. Under 16s must be accompanied by an adult.
