This atmospheric, echo-laden strain of techno originated in Berlin in the early 1990s, a hybrid of dub music from 1960s-1970s Jamaica and techno from 1980s Detroit, with Moritz von Oswald and Mark Ernestus of Basic Channel and Hard Wax credited as its originators. Tonight, the legacy is represented by Detroit DJ and producer DeepChord, aka Rod Modell, an artist active in the scene for over 25 years with an expansive discography.
