Description
If you pumped sunshine through the tape deck of an old school boombox, it might sound like Otis Kane. He makes the kind of music meant for good times, spiking throwback genre-bending R&B grooves with fresh California fire. Whether on stage or through your headphones, the Los Angeles, CA-based artist, multi-instrumentalist, and producer instantly incites movement.
As the story goes, Otis recognized the power of music as a kid in L.A. These days, he points to frequently hearing “I Heard It Through The Grapevine” by Marvin Gaye as a tipping point. Ironically, the budding artist’s basketball coach spotted his talent, urging him to not only sing, but record in a professional studio. Not long after, Otis wound up with his first proper “CD” in hand. “I felt like a pro,” he laughs.
2020 saw him make his formal introduction as an artist. He served up the Therapy EP followed by the Growing Pains EP and Purple BLUE LP. Among many highlights, “Lost” racked up 10.5 million Spotify streams and counting. Throughout 2024, he carefully assembled what would become Violet under the influence of everyone from Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, and Al Green to Pharrell, Prince, and Sister Sledge. His intent remained pure… “I’m the culmination of all of the music I’ve taken in,” he notes. “I never try to do one thing. I just want to make music that makes me feel good, then I share that goodness.”
