Description
This week’s Nonstop brings together artists with a strong sense for atmospheric textures and driving rhythms, from heady techno to experimental bass. Local staple adobeprincess kicks things off, returning to the booth with her emotive, dreamy approach to build up the floor.
Following up their previous solo appearances, two Berlin label founders make a comeback: Sally C of Big Saldo’s Chunkers and Spray of Punctuality Records, traversing house, acid, and breakbeat with a sensibility both technical and community-minded.
Quebec’s Priori carries it into the morning with his evocative, enchanting approach to dance music. As one half of NAFF recordings and the Jump Source recording studio, and as an accomplished mixing engineer who has worked with artists like Maara, D. Tiffany, and Roza Terenzi, Priori is steadily shaping the course of underground electronic dance music in Canada and abroad.
Nowadays resident livwutang should require little introduction around here, but for the uninitiated, you’re in for a treat with one of New York’s finest DJs stretching across the morning hours. livwutang’s sets offer her own signature fresh take on dub-based sounds and classic house that is both dreamy and playful.
Bristol’s Om Unit contributed a stream to our Virtually Nowadays programming back in 2020. In the afternoon, he makes his long-awaited debut in the Nowadays booth. A pioneer of the UK bass scene with early releases on Metalheadz, Om Unit’s solo work (most recently his ‘Acid Dub Versions’ albums) and collaborations with artists like Deadbeat, Martyn, and TM404 continue to push boundaries and move bodies and minds.
Nowadays resident Ayesha follows with her signature hybrid of underground techno, leftfield UK sounds, and diasporic influences from her Indian heritage. "Beautiful things emerge from our care and consistent attention," she says about her work, which she also calls "body over mind." An artist whose deep commitment to the craft shines through, Ayesha’s sets are powerful, tactile, and unpredictable.
Another forward-thinking stalwart of Bristol bass, Timedance’s Batu closes it out Sunday. His previous Sunday evening appearance at Dweller Festival was a legendary moment in Nowadays dancefloor history. A regular of peaktime slots around the world, Batu’s taste runs deeper than deep, and an extended set offers an opportunity to experience his full breadth.
