Description
X-TRA.SERVICES goes deep for its first edition of 2025. Stef Mendesidis’ live sets are bar-setting affairs. His entire musical practice is rooted in hardware performance, and over the last decade and change he’s established himself as an undisputed master of the form. Mendesidis lays it down with an authority that is positively gripping. A live set from Mendesidis bristles and seethes with more energy and power than many DJs can muster on their best day. He’s just that good. Yant joins from Manchester. His productions push the rigor of hypnotic luminaries like Mike Parker and Surgeon into fresh territory. Yant’s knack for intertwining, mind bending layers and unerring club impact hits just right. With standout records on SK_Eleven, Token and more, Yant is proving to be a name to watch. ÆON has emerged as a paragon of coursing, immersive techno. In their curation for Flux and their sets around New York, ÆON plays with slippery focus.
HAAi is hardly your typical DJ. Her music fuses seismic club production with expansive sound design, an IMAX-grade cinematic vision and (at times) unrestrained vocals that recall downtempo icons of the ‘90s like Tracey Thorn and Elizabeth Fraser. Her album “Baby We’re Ascending” shows how wide her vision can be, with a profusion of musical easter eggs, sonic switchbacks and joyous freakouts. You sense that HAAi is trying to see how far she can take it, and that she’s just getting started. K Wata is a similarly adventurous talent, but where HAAi goes maximalist, K Wata finds haunting beauty in empty space. The Slink co-founder’s productions are frankly virtuosic, with a sculptural and mesmerizing precision. For this show, he basks in the groovier corners of his collection with a special house set. X-TRA.SERVICES resident LYDO rounds out the night. LYDO is, by now, a household name for anyone following NY music. An artist in constant evolution, LYDO’s vision marries the radical and sensual.
