Description
The description “But, Can She Sing?” actually came to me by way of a 90’s mixtape that Jason Kendig named for our longtime Detroit friend Danny Case. Jason is a dear friend and DJ peer. Our DJ origins practically align. We evolved simultaneously in the heyday of Detroit’s underground and our connection spans 30 years. We never missed a beat, or a killer vocal for that matter. Our fond admiration has gone the distance.
The thing about Jason Kendig is that he was always an integral part of my history, his impeccable curation and influence is priceless. He knew his way around a vocal, a remix, a dub mix and more; he was always searching for something chic, classy, and fierce. It was a bond from the start. From record shopping at our beloved Record Time often, to seeking out elite Detroit DJ's on a school night, to turning me on to Ken Collier mixtapes, to DJing and dancing together at various parties throughout the entire nineties, and even a short lived but pivotal residency together in our formative years - (we opened and closed for legendary vocalist Martha Wash!) - Jason has made an inevitable impact on my music mind and body that holds to this day. The influence is undeniable.
So without further hesitation, I'm thrilled to announce Jason Kendig for the next “But, Can She Sing?”. An obvious choice and an overdue pairing in a New York DJ booth! We are looking forward to breaking in a new year. Expect a night of vocals, remixes, dub mixes, a capellas, perk a pellas, and all things vocally adjacent for exquisite mixing sure to spark up the dance floor and lift the spirit.
We welcome you to our dance floor!
XO - Mike Servito
