About Fitness for a Cure
The annual Fitness for a Cure event began in 1999 when chair founder Sherri Sarrouf decided to initiate an evening to raise money and awareness for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Sherri put together a team of fitness professionals and dance performers to entertain at the event. The performance team and committee sent a strong public message throughout the first event. Those that are strong in mind and body and in good health should give back to the sick and less fortunate. As the first event came to an end, attendees proclaimed feeling energized from the performers, the upbeat music, and the exercise demonstrations. Most importantly, everyone felt great about giving to such a wonderful cause and were motivated to exercise!
Since inception, this event has raised over $8.5 million for the kids of St. Jude. Throughout the several months of planning this event, the committee and Sherri host several other smaller fundraisers to raise awareness about St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Sherri Sarrouf believes it is very important to “pay it forward”. Being blessed with two healthy children keeps Sherri and her committee focused on giving back to those less fortunate.
