David Moufang, known as Move D, is a pioneering figure in electronic music, renowned for his contributions to ambient techno and experimental sounds. Growing up in Heidelberg, his childhood was shaped by a love for space exploration, as well as a deep classical musical background through his grandmothers, both concert pianists. Moufang’s early immersion in techno came in 1989 when he discovered the underground scene in Mannheim, which led to his involvement in both DJing and producing. His work with Jonas Grossmann as Deep Space Network and his solo releases as Move D established him as an innovative force in the genre, blending elements of jazz, ambient, and Detroit-influenced techno. His debut solo album, KUNSTSTOFF (1995), is often hailed as a masterpiece of European techno, featuring a unique mix of soft, dreamlike textures and jagged rhythms. Tracks like "Soap Bubbles" and "Beyond the Machine" exemplified his ability to blend atmospheric, ambient soundscapes with the intricate, driving rhythms of Detroit techno. Moufang’s collaborations also pushed boundaries, most notably his work with Jonah Sharp on Reagenz, which fused experimental electronics with jazz and classical influences, creating music that was both abstract and emotive. Beyond his solo projects, Moufang worked extensively with other influential artists, including Pete Namlook and jazz musician Karl Berger, further expanding his sound and style. His Conjoint project (1997), a jazz-inflected collaboration, highlighted his skills as a composer and producer, merging live jazz improvisation with electronic textures. Despite not achieving mainstream commercial success, Moufang's innovative music has left a lasting impact on the evolution of electronic music, particularly in the realms of ambient and techno. He continues to explore new musical horizons, with ongoing projects such as a new Deep Space Network album. // Club Level // Move D (Source Records | Germany) soundcloud.com/move-d ⠶⠶⠶⠶⠶ Flash Safe Space Policy ⠶⠶⠶⠶⠶ Flash stands firmly against non-consensual behavior, discrimination, harassment or harm of any kind.
