Description
As we head into winter Anetha brings her Mama Told Ya label to BASEMENT for a showcase, with a headlining set from the label boss herself. This March saw the release of “Mothearth,” Anetha’s debut LP, released on MTY. The album shows the Parisian artist rendering techno bangers in a glossy, frenetic fashion - highly conceptualized, with the floor filling kicks of classic ‘90s anthems and the shimmering surfaces of a Jeff Koonz sculpture. Anthea’s evolution from underground breakout to a true leading light has been a sight to behold. The further she goes, the bolder she gets. Lacchesi makes his debut at the club. His entries into the label’s catalog take on a darker hue; check out “Jeopardizer,” from the most recent installation in the MTY-AIR compilation series. Lacchesi extracts uncanny sonics from a tightly-defined palette, working an undeniable, galloping groove for all it’s worth. On his own Maison Close label, Lacchesi presents his own vision of stylish, moody and coursing rave sounds. Mac Declos is a MTY mainstay, and a significant presence in the Parisian techno scene that the label is rooted in. His full-throttle approach welds some of the delicacy and evocative textures of IDM to high velocity techno. It’s equal parts euphoric and destructive, the kind of music that breaks through the noise to invite an air of wonder to the most visceral dance floors.
Peachlyfe returns, stepping up at STUDIO. A repeat offender at the club, Peachlyfe has proven to be one of the most exciting voices in the emergent generation redefining the parameters of rave. Peachlyfe’s “Effeminate Pastimes” was a standout on the MTY-TERRE compilation, a monster of a track defined by its writhing core synth line and propulsive bassline. While sacrificing no amount of heaviness, Peachlyfe draws you into an entrancing and hypnotic space of menacing beauty and high drama. Berlin-via-LA’s Alison Swing stops into the club for the first time. True to her alias, her mixes spare nothing in service of that classic house swing. As the founder of both LA’s Dig Deeper series and Berlin’s Uforia, Swing has made her mark as a pillar of the underground community as well as an artist. Speaking of - Miami’s Ultrathem is back. One of the key founding members of the Internet Friends collective, Ultrathem has been right at the forefront of their hometown’s musical resurgence. Joyously throbbing, occasionally jacking, hypnotically mesmerizing - Ultrathem brings it.
