Sylvia’s bedroom folk is emotionally rich and complexly beautiful. The chordal and melodic language she has built can be virtuosic or artfully spare but is always completely her own, and never rests on its laurels, constantly darting in unexpected but fitting directions.
Able Baker is the ever-evolving guitar band led by core member Tim Anderson. Following the tape release of locally well received EP Spiral Bound Songs via Flesh and Bone Records, Anderson’s relocation to Chicago signals a new era for the band. Coming up in Madison, Wisconsin’s music scene as a scrappy emo and slowcore outfit, the band has since taken on a new and refined nature. An increased spirit of collaboration between members Jordan Zamansky, Eric Breden, and Gwen Giedeman evidences the band settling into their power as a whip-smart Midwest indie rock force.
Music that holds you while you cry: Hannah Sandoz's arrangements implement tender lyrics and lush soundscapes for guitar, vocals, and laptop. Their use of real-time processing renders universal stories of day-to-day life into complex worlds which coax and stir even the most skeptical of audiences.
Sandoz, a Louisiana native, took their songwriting practice to Chicago in 2021 and has been based there ever since. These songs draw from a love of rich textures and large rooms. They evoke distant memories; we stretch to remember details, but it's so blurry you can't quite make it out…
