Since 2013, Melkbelly have cloaked forward-thinking pop-songs with a shroud of disjointed rhythms, feedback, and noise. It’s a pretty great trick. Peel back the layers of the group’s rich and colorful sound and you’ll grip the simple and true melodies that lie within the discord. It’s as you move in closer that Melkbelly comes into focus: thoughtful artists who’ve dedicated themselves not only to their community, but to surprising hooks that explode in cathartic cacophony.
Paper Mice is a labyrinth with misshapen walls and dangerously unstable floors that seem to be in constant motion, knocking you continually off-balance as you wend your way down spiraling corridors with spastic flickering lights that flash clear but inscrutable messages, past countless dead ends, and finally through what must be the exit, but it turns out there are three more floors to this labyrinth and all of them are on fire, and how did you end up here in the first place and how do you get out?
Gerund's sole release — Live at Pallet Sound, recorded by Seth Engel — invites comparisons to Come, Heatmiser, and early-aughts Barsuk Records artists. Gerund members are famous from their other bands: Mooner, Terriers, and sewingneedle.
Presented by Sleeping Village.
