Description
Birmingham grunge/alternative band Blip celebrated a reunion after over 15 years hiatus in 2022. The resulting rehearsals and concerts were capped by achieving a life long goal of recording with their hero- Hum's Matt Talbott in December of 2023. That recording resulted in a new EP titled "Lucky" and the band excitedly prepared to share it with friends and fans. Promotion of the recording stopped abruptly in the summer of 2024, when Blip lead singer Kyle Everett's husband, Joe Stark, went into the hospital complaining of an injured rib. The diagnosis shocked everyone- Joe was diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer with metastatic disease in some of his bones and liver. Kyle and Joe quickly rallied to begin comprehensive diagnosis and establish a treatment plan to attack the cancer. Immunotherapy and chemotherapy were started immediately and have not achieved the desired result. Now Joe's battle is coming into focus. Tests have indicated that Joe's cancer is a match for a specific mutation that allows the medical team to use targeted, highly customized, specialized chemo treatments at the disease. And that is where you come in. These intense, customized treatments are intensely potent medicines, but they also come with an extraordinary cost. The financial burden of “normal” chemo is overwhelming. But this medicine is nearly $20,000 per month. We are asking for help with covering the cost to ensure we continue to throw everything modern medicine has got at this terrible disease. Any and every contribution helps- the cost for just one month of this medicine would break most budgets, and the prospect of needing multiple months is pushing Kyle and Joe's ability to handle things on their own. Your help is a blessing and they are incredibly grateful for every donation and every kindness.
