Description
Mutual Rytm returns to BASEMENT with another showcase. Label co-owner SHDW flies solo for this one, but whether on his own or in collaboration with Obscure Shape, SHDW knows how to steer the ship straight into a black hole. This is raw, pounding techno for genre devotees and dedicated dancers. No compromises, no concessions, no problem. Colombian-born RUIZ OSC1 makes her debut. A self-professed proponent of “groovycore,” RUIZ OSC1 fuses folkloric sounds of her home country with the sizzling moment of modern techno. An outstanding release on Héctor Oaks’ KAOZ is of a piece with his style: plenty of bounce, delivered with a fearless snarl. LA’s Selective Response is one of the newest additions to the Mutual Rytm family. His “Reality Unfolds” rips through the mix with an absolutely unhinged intensity.
Kevin Aviance has been making his mark at STUDIO. One of the premier club kids of NY’s ‘90s heyday, Aviance’s reputation was set in stone with iconic hits like “Rhythm Is My Bitch.” Aviance’s legacy is assured on the strength of those tracks alone, but he’s an irrepressible talent who could not sit on his laurels if he tried. A sample by Beyoncé of his song “Cunty” certainly turned some heads, but Aviance has defined his moment on his own terms. Recent releases like “Body” and “I’m Back” see Aviance taunting the listener in fine style: “Been gone for a minute/my style’s off limits.” JADALAREIGN takes up the mantle for the current era. One of NY’s premier house selectors, JADALAREIGN embodies the best of the genre, playing in a classic vein with a modern edge and decisive ;point of view. Jason Kendig’s sets at STUDIO are always welcome. No one can do it quite like he does, playing with a soulful presence, digger’s acumen and the steady hand of a master.
