Description
This November, FIST and Buttons share the club. In BASEMENT, FIST does what it does best: slamming, unruly techno with a queer twist. For this edition, they’ve invited Parisian artist François X back into the room. The DEMENT3D label honcho has embodied a bold, uncontainable creative vision. A master of injurious techno par excellence, François X has nonetheless refused to stay within the oft-rigid confines of the genre. Last year’s “CEO” EP had all the markings of a landmark work, defined by a strongly articulated personal vision defined by hurtling rhythms, warped vocal reshapes and mournful, exploratory passages. Berlin-based Supergloss delivers the goods true to her name. This is a splashy deep dive into the shimmering, euphoric sounds of turn-of-the-millennium techno, replete with ultra-defined synths and bright rave hallmarks. Residents Word of Command and DJ Clone turn it out with truly adventurous spirit. Both find indelible sweet spots between careening chaos and artful, even subversive interjections.
STUDIO is turned over to Buttons for the run of the night; heaven help us. Longitude - the b2b collaboration between Bouffant Bouffant and Jacob Meehan - takes the helm. Each are essential selectors, organizers and community builders within the queer electronic underground. Meehan plays a vital role in Berlin’s WHOLE Festival, while Bouffant Bouffant’s monthly Gimme A Reason party is an essential bastion in New Orleans. Each play with a transgressive vibrancy that regularly veers into the ecstatic. Shaun J. Wright has become one of STUDIO’s mainstays. A native of Chicago, Wright extends his hometown’s lineage of foundational queer expression. Wright’s music is house music, in the deepest sense. Whether solo, or in collaboration with Hercules and Love Affair, Wright gives voice to the full tapestry of human experience. DJ Miss Parker is back. A now-ensconced member of the NY underground, her versatility is matched only by the energy she brings to the booth. Parker can go hard, wild or, when the moment calls for it, tender. But her sets are always fully alive.
