Description
The Leftover Last Waltz, a live music event benefiting The Foundation for Tulsa Schools, returns to the Ballroom on 11/24/24.
Tickets to the all-ages, family-friendly fundraiser include a Thanksgiving meal catered by Macs BBQ at Cain's Ballroom. The evening also features a silent auction and raffle, as well as a unique, memory-making photo booth experience.
After a one-year hiatus in 2022, the LLW event returned to Cain’s Ballroom with a new format. In place of a movie screening, LLW is now a live production of the music from the movie soundtrack performed by a band of Tulsa musicians and special guests. Musicians confirmed so far include Paul Benjaman (guitar), Paddy Ryan (drums), Dylan Layton (bass), Corey Mauser (keys), Jesse Aycock (Guitar and steel), Greg Fallis (trombone), Ryan Hatcher (trumpet), and Andy McCormick (saxophone), with performances from Tulsa musicians John Fullbright, Jared Tyler, Sarah Frick, and Cody Brewer and special guests, including Jesse Dean, Chebon Tiger and Mike Satawake. The evening will feature covers of the classics from this historical soundtrack, which includes songs like “I Shall Be Released,” “The Weight,” “Ophelia,” “Up On Cripple Creek,” and many more.
Released in 1978, The Last Waltz, was a music documentary filmed and directed by Martin Scorsese. Considered one of the best concert documentaries ever made, the movie features the last concert (by the same name) of the Canadian-American rock group, The Band, which was held on Thanksgiving Day, November 25, 1976, San Francisco’s Winterland Ballroom. The Band (musicians Rick Danko, Levon Helm, Garth Hudson, Richard Manuel & Robbie Robertson) was joined by more than a dozen special guests, including Ronnie Hawkins, Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, Neil Diamond, Emmylou Harris Dr John, Joni Mitchell, Van Morrison, Ringo Starr, Muddy Waters and Neil Young. Song performances include “Up on Cripple Creek,” “Ophelia,” “The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down,” and “The Weight.”
