Description
Berlin’s BCCO hosts their first takeover of the venue. The collective has been making serious waves in their hometown, pushing techno into new, bold terrain with a fearless edge. DJ Hyperdrive ramps up the tempos. His high velocity “Groovetrance” sets tunnel into the center of the earth with thumping single mindedness, tweaking the cerebral cortex through subtle gradations of spiraling hypnosis. Let him take you over the edge. Phil Berg draws straight from the source. The German artist shows an undeniable allegiance to Detroit’s headiest, sci-fi obsessed strains in his own productions. Tracks like the recent “Transistance” or “Polychrome” use the core ingredients of classic techno: raw minor chord stabs, distant synth bleeps glistening like stars in the night sky, and crisp, driving percussion. Infra resident CSILLA spares no one. Her sets demand engagement, pushing with unyielding energy and a classic, coiled rhythmic feel.
MCR-T returns to STUDIO for another full-on, no-holds-barred session. The Berlin artist has, along with the Live from Earth crew, been pushing a freewheeling, exploratory approach that harnesses the rawness of classic Detroit house, jacking percussion, hard-hitting rapping, and electro-tinged rave. His ethos could not be more clear: “Creation is lived through experience. I feel as an artist it’s my “job” to be. If I experience things in life therefore I AM and I channel how I feel and think into my records. Always raw, real and from the heart. I’d like to think you can feel that my Soul is in everything I put out.” BCCO’s CRYME takes a similar ruff-n-ready approach to timeless sounds, infusing them with effortless freshness. On his recent productions like “Back2Room,” CRYME invokes the spirit of sensual, jagged-edge Chicago house with an indelibly on-point sensibility. Meilgaarden represents. The NYC artist taps into a vein of slick, tunneling energy with vibrant, even cheeky surfaces.
