Rodrigo Torres, better known as Nsqk, is an innovative Mexican artist with an avant-garde vision of music. Born in Monterrey, he spent his early years in Houston, Texas, until the 2008 economic crisis in the United States forced his family to return to Mexico, an event that marked his life as he found refuge in electronic music.
Nsqk felt identified with that “niche” and “outsider” genre, allowing him to channel his emotions. Until the age of 19, production became his favorite form of expression, releasing hundreds of songs on digital platforms under a different stage name.
In college, he reconnects with a friend who introduces him to genres such as R&B, trap, hip hop, and pop. This led him to open his label No Pedí Permiso, where he worked as a producer and songwriter alongside Gera, El Refugiado. He also began performing live, satisfying his longing to take the stage.
His first EP, ‘Botánica,’ in 2020, served as therapy for a difficult emotional stage, grappling with pursuing his musical dream or pleasing his parents with a university degree. The production's success opened doors but brought new emotional challenges reflected in “Braille,” a pandemic collaboration with Méne.
With ‘Roy’ in 2022, Nsqk reached a new level of recognition, going on a successful tour in Mexico and receiving praise from prominent music publications. However, he reflected that the creative process had become arduous, losing enjoyment. He then decided to “save himself,” focusing on making music for his happiness.
This new stage has given rise to a more accessible sound, presenting tracks like “LOVELANGUAGE,” “COMETIERRA REMIX,” “BAD INTENCIONES,” “SIGO AL PENDIENTE,” and “SÍSIFO / NADIE MÁS!” in which he fuses underground influences with a mainstream approach, aiming for a global Latin American scene. Nsqk demonstrates his commitment to artistic growth and his ability to reinvent himself while maintaining his essence.
