Description
Mala Junta returns for a two room, all night takeover. The Berlin-based queer collective is on fire right now; they’ve become globally revered for their rip-it-up-and-start-again approach to techno. D.Dan and Mama Snake represent the crew in BASEMENT. D.Dan’s particularly ferocious take finds full form in the main room. Infusing rough hewn, edgy bangers with a fathoms-deep bass undertow, D.Dan hits a balancing point between elegant grace and a carefully-sculpted ugliness. Mama Snake has established a connection to the crew with her Amniote label, which has released multiple comps representing the Mala Junta extended family. As a paragon of shimmering bangers and unhinged, trance-kissed catharsis, there’s a natural resonance with the collective’s ethos. Holden Federico tightens the screws on the blinding underground sounds of techno’s golden age. A true student of the genre’s most elemental truths, Federico represents a lineage of undiluted vision and timeless futurism.
DJ Tool comes in swinging with a fresh take that fuses driving, psychedelic club sounds with feral rave energy. On his recent BASEMENT 005 mix, he wastes no time taking you straight to the center of the wormhole, with a high octane, fluid sonic signature that keeps you locked in. For this set, he makes a slight detour into housier(ish) sounds at STUDIO. Let’s see where he goes with it. Hyperaktivist joins him, also deviating from her bread-and-butter. While she’s mainly known for the careening techno suggested by her moniker, Hyperaktivist’s sets are always graced with moments of joyous melodicism or an unabashed vocal flip - a perfect jumping off point for a STUDIO session. Ryker seals the deal. The Salon founder has become a mainstay, tapping into the steely and shimmering in equal measure.
