RYAN BINGHAM - Ryan Bingham, the eclectic roots-based singer/songwriter, catapulted from obscurity to stardom in 2009 when he clinched an Oscar for co-writing "The Weary Kind" with T-Bone Burnett, the poignant centerpiece of the film Crazy Heart. This marked a defining moment in Bingham's career, propelling him into the limelight and setting the stage for a trajectory that blurred the lines between country and Americana. His musical journey took flight, leading him through a landscape of introspection and sonic exploration.
Born and raised in rural Texas, Bingham's upbringing was steeped in the rugged authenticity of hardscrabble ranch work and the adrenaline-fueled world of rodeo competitions. These formative years lent a gritty realism to his music, reflecting the raw emotions and experiences of a life lived on the edge. Despite the challenges he faced, including living alone since his mid-teens and shuttling between Southwestern border towns, Bingham found solace and expression through his guitar. Influenced by the likes of Bob Dylan, Marshall Tucker, and Bob Wills, his sound emerged as a tapestry woven from the fabric of his surroundings and the melodies that echoed through the jukebox of his uncle's roadhouse.
Bingham's journey from entertaining friends with his guitar during late-night treks to earning a coveted residency at a local bar in Stephenville, Texas, marked the beginning of a musical odyssey that would see him sign with Nashville heavyweights Lost Highway Records. His major-label debut, Mescalito, garnered critical acclaim, drawing comparisons to the raw authenticity of legends like Steve Earle. Collaborations with renowned producers such as Marc Ford and T-Bone Burnett further solidified his place in the musical landscape, culminating in a string of albums that explored the depths of his soul and the intricacies of the human experience. Beyond his musical endeavors, Bingham's foray into acting, notably in the hit drama Yellowstone, added another dimension to his artistic repertoire, showcasing his multifaceted talent and unwavering commitment to his craft. With each album release, Bingham continues to push the boundaries of his artistry, delving deeper into the recesses of his soul to craft music that resonates with authenticity and emotion.
