CLUB SHY Club Shy is the X-Rated underworld after-hours realm of Shygirl – the inaugural Club Shy event took place at East London’s Metropolis nightclub in October 2022 to celebrate the release of the artists Mercury Prize nominated debut album, Nymph. The Shygirl curated club experience was a beautiful ceremony and observance of the East London club scene from where Shygirl was born. The Club Shy concept however was teased well before that inaugural night via Shygirl’s BBC Radio 1 Residency which she entitled Club Shy, which broadcast back in November 2021. Other nods to the Club Shy concept have appeared throughout Shygirl’s work and outside of the literal club with the inclusion of the Poison (Club Shy mix) on the artists 2023 release, Nymph_o (a reinterpretation of her debut album featuring remixes by Bjork, Eartheater and Arca). Further Club Shy events followed however; Club Shy LA premiered at The Echo in September 2022 with appearances from Pink Pantheress and Arca and then in November 2022, Shy hosted the night at Primavera Sound São Paulo. On her April 2023 North American tour Club Shy events took place at Chicago’s Berlin nightclub and the legendary Webster Hall in NYC. The Webster Hall event included a live performance from Lola (documented by V Magazine)and appearances from Angelita, Bearcat, Byrell The Great, and Sammy. Both a concept and real life experience, Club Shy is ultimately a proclamation of the artists love for club music and the club. It serves as both a community and platform for the artist to gift her more club oriented music to fans whilst allowing her freedom to explore other worlds; for Shygirl is constantly searching, curious and looking to tell new stories. Today however marks another evolution for the Club Shy concept as the debut Club Shy live show is announced as part of Sónar Lisboa 2024. Expect upbeat live reworks of the artists alternatively provocative, tender and sensual tracks, plus DJs and dancers. Fans should also hold tight for the drop of ‘thicc’ on Nov 14. A brand new track from Shygirl, the anthemic and sultry club banger is the first single to be released ahead of a 6 track project, entitled Club Shy, due early 2024. Whilst fans and critics should keep a sharp eye on the evolution of Shygirl, Club Shy will keep the fires burning for this extraordinarily multi dimensional artist.
