Description
Illiterate Light thrives on subverting expectations. Though just a duo, singer-guitarist Jeff Gorman and drummer Jake Cochran make surprisingly pummeling and catchy alternative rock. Since the band’s 2015 inception, they’ve intently focused on their unorthodox live show with Cochran standing behind his kit and Gorman playing synth bass with his foot as he sings and strums his guitar. Fiercely egalitarian and independent, the two not only split up songwriting duties and arrangement ideas, they even built bike-powered stages: bringing the fans into the live experience and envisioning a greener future for shows.
Drawing from the sounds of Appalachia and Midwestern Americana, Palmyra captures the collective spirit of three Virginia natives, Teddy (he/him), Manoa (he/him), and Sasha (they/them). The band met in the culturally rich Shenandoah Valley, apparent through their dedication to create a folk-driven, engaging experience. In the tradition of trios before them, like The Avett Brothers, Nickel Creek or The Wood Brothers. Palmyra’s set explores the fusion of traditional string instruments, three part harmonies and innovative song writing. Their songs are intimate and contemplative, with arrangements that create the illusion of a full, larger-than-three ensemble. Having won honors and recognition from historic institutions such as The Newport Folk Festival, The Boston Globe, and Virginia's iconic Floyd Fest. The band is excited to announce their debut album will be coming soon.
