Description
FIST lunges into spring with an outstanding lineup. Icelandic producer Bjarki has cut his own path through the modern club landscape, with a mix of leftfield techno, bracing IDM, junglist breaks and more all finding a coherent, hybrid form in his works. His breakout “Wanna Go Bang” was a delectable slice of naughty club fizz, with an electro sheen and some serious bass weight. But that’s just a glimpse into Bjarki’s world, and his split with Aphex Twin (a flex, if there ever was one) and sprawling aliases show an artist who’s as comfortable with the weird and febrile as he is with bangers. Mild Fantasy’s Elle Dee is a real force in the NY techno underground. Her sets just keep going deeper into hard-af, raw and nervy energy. Residents Word of Command and DJ Clone split the difference in BASEMENT, each drawing on a well of absolutely psycho rippers and years spent honing their craft.
New World Dysorder co-founder Yha Yha steps in a STUDIO. Though her collective is notorious for some of the most bracing approaches to the modern dancefloor, Yha Yha is not without a soulful side. Recent sets have seen her tweak tempos, from the frenzied to the balmy and soulful. MoMa Ready’s unflinching approach taps into the core of house: swaggy, delirious, direct and always outstanding, MoMa Ready brings out the genre’s best aspects. LA’s Masha Mar infuses the floor with a warm, joyous glow. The NTS and Dublab resident finds an affinity with the sweat soaked churn of cosmic disco and the hot-and-heavy grooves of tribal, deep house and more leftfield secret weapons.
