Description
UK stalwart Perc headlines a searing night at BASEMENT. The Perc Trax label boss and acclaimed producer is hands-down one of the definitive names in modern, granite-hard techno. Blending masterful sound design, decades of experience behind the decks and an impish yen for the chaotic, Perc’s track bludgeon and demolish without giving up a single ounce of pleasure. As the head of the label, he’s released some of techno’s most exciting voices, advancing a new wave of absolutely menacing music that holds nothing back and brokers no compromise. Juliana Huxtable is a similarly untamable creative force. The DJ / poet / performer and now bandleader (with Tongue In The Mind) is one of the most unique artists to have emerged from NY’s electronic flourishing over the last 10+ years. A truly unique and visionary talent, Huxtable’s sets are psychedelic, overwhelming, and at times confrontational. But they’re also joyous, cathartic and spine-tingling rides, collaging disparate sounds and crafting thrilling ruptures. FIST resident Word of Command perfectly completes the lineup. Drawing on similar lineages of artful speed and crushing power, Word of Command has emerged as a figurehead in NY’s vital queer underground. As with Perc and Huxtable, his sets defy convention and bristle with urgency and wild talent.
Kevin Aviance returns. The NY artist is a certified queer icon, with credentials that go back as far as the ‘90s Club Kid heyday and as recent as this year, with a production credit on Beyoncé’s Renaissance. Aviance’s earliest contributions to the dancefloor remain essential: “Rhythm Is My Bitch” and “Cunty” are rawer-than-raw floor fillers that demand your attention. Natuta is one of Tbilisi’s most engaged proponents of queer nightlife. The Eau De Cologne founder is beloved for her heavy, rolling house mixes that speak to a primal, erogenous sensuality. Haruka’s spongy, febrile house concoctions pay no mind to the matters of the day, instead invoking a richly imagined world and beckoning the listener to come explore. They’re one of NY’s most consistent, steadfast talents and a DJ of preternatural capacity. What keeps them fresh and relevant is their ability to keep it real and keep it spontaneous.
