We return to London for our autumn/winter edition of Your Love on the 13th October at Corsica Studios . We are extremely excited to have one of London’s most ground breaking & iconic events, making a return to the city for the occasion . Founded back in the early 2000’s , by musician, DJ, runner ,leader, teacher, speaker, poet, Lululemon global run ambassador and founder of the alternative running club Run Dem Crew & recent MBE Recipient , Charlie Dark . In Charlie’s own words , ‘Blacktronica was born out of an incident that happened to me in New York where I cleared a packed dance floor with a Dizzee Rascal record that was killing it back in London. I had an epiphany on the plane home that unless the culture travelled with the music people would never understand the context behind the records. It was also during a period of time when many artists of colour were being boxed under the ‘Urban’ tag as if that was the only music we were allowed to make or play. I wanted to create a night where the forward thinking music of the day could be played alongside the music that influenced it from the past. An evening of edutainment and culture that connected the dots between all aspects of Black music, past , present and future. I was tired of the innovation of artists being overlooked because of the medium in which it was shared so I deliberately located Blacktronica in an Arts Centre rather than a club setting. As far as I was concerned the ability to read half of a manual and then make a piece of studio equipment do what it wasn’t programmed to do needed to be celebrated as a piece of art not a lucky accident. The night really pushed the boundaries both musically and visually and we had a ton of people come through who’ve gone on to bigger and greater things in the years that followed. If I look at the current musical landscape and the type of records that are now considered mainstream music I’m happy to have played a small part in breaking down some of the barriers that were previously in place. Blacktronica has morphed into a university course at the University of California led by Dj producer and cultural curator King Britt under the moniker Blacktronika and the return of live events on both sides of the Atlantic. ‘ Charlie will be joined by South London’s husband & wife Dynamic Duo , Handson Family (Cyndi Anafo & Chris Ellis) . (Cyndi Anafo & Chris Ellis) have been DJing and promoting primarily independent music in the capital primarily for over two decades. Passionate about South London’s legacy of Black music club culture and the community they were raised in, HF have turned their hands to many creative ventures beyond DJing including sound creation, booking artists, client tailored events, running pop up spaces and social media content management. As per usual Lakuti & Tama Sumo will take over Room 1 all night . Founded in London back in 2015 by Lakuti & Tama Sumo & now happening also in Berlin at Panorama bar & headed to New York City for the 1st time on the 3rd September 2023 ,
