Nahko
Trenches Tour 2023
SUPPORT: Nattali Rize
After a close to 4-year hiatus from touring in the U.S., Nahko is set to return to the stage for a solo tour to support the release of his seventh album titled TRENCHES.
While on a macro level, the pandemic brought the entire world to a standstill, closer to home Nahko also experienced a deeply profound and life-altering series of events in his personal life that compelled him to step back from both touring and public life. Serving as his own Dark Night of the Soul, this chapter gave him the opportunity for deep self-excavation, soul searching, and reflection. Retreating to his homestead in Oregon, Nahko went within and prioritized his focus on healing, mental health, and family.
In December 2021, he released the EP beautiful trouble, a stirring collection of pandemic-era songs that he says served as a “Footnote to what I was really going through. The world was changing so dramatically, I was grounded at home for an indefinite amount of time, and I had to say something in response to it all.” Taking the new music to Europe, Nahko was greeted with sold-out shows and an outpouring of love from fans globally celebrating his return, an enduring reminder of his impact and the demand for his musical medicine.
“To be honest, I didn’t know if I could sell tickets anymore or if anyone wanted to hear me play. I nearly quit altogether. Music is woven into the fabric of my soul, so in that sense, I knew I’d never stop writing, but returning to live performance meant a return to public life. The same public life that gave me incredible opportunities also came with its own weight, which I wasn’t sure I had the capacity to carry anymore,” shared Nahko candidly.
“With roadblocks at every turn, it felt like the Universe wanted me to stop, like it was time for something different. It took a couple years, multiple therapists and coaches, and lots of patience, grace and perseverance, but eventually, I came to the realization that I did need to completely transform how I approached my music as both artistry and as a career. I needed to make even more changes than I already had and show up differently for my music, my family, and myself. It’s been the most difficult death and rebirth to date, but it’s shaped me into a better man, father, and artist.”
The album TRENCHES is set to release September 15th while Nahko is on tour in Europe.
“This collection of songs is just the beginning. It’s part one of my response to unpacking the last few years. If it hadn’t been for my devoted fans, family, and friends I wouldn’t have found the courage to climb out of the trenches, keep telling my story, and keep showing up for this work that I love so much. This tour and album is truly a gift for my devoted fans. As an artist, I began in the trenches and my fans lifted me up.
Over time, I built an incredible career, but developed bad behaviors and let traumas go unchecked. This created new trenches and again, my fans lifted me up. That’s real love, beyond condition. I really wouldn’t be here without the fans, my family, and close friends who kept showing up for me with encouragement, accountability, and love. Since then, I’ve made radical changes to my life which is reflected in the new music and in how I perform them. There is redemption in being welcomed back on stage. There is inspiration in the deeply human experience of losing your way and then finding it again. There’s going to be a lot of tears, for sure. It’s going to be a celebration.”
Nahko’s U.S. TRENCHES Tour begins October 13th. Produced by Live Nite Events, this run of shows will feature solo-acoustic performances from Nahko in intimate, limited-capacity, venues.
