Description
SWAK - the Berlin x Cape Town party throwers and wine purveyors Bare Wines and Aryu Jassika - returns to the Sound Room this August after a banging debut last June. For this 2023 edition, Jassika himself will make it to town, touching down on NYC soil for the first time with a USB bloated with cuts you've never even dreamt of. In his own music, the CT-based producer and DJ plays with the wide palette of sounds that make up South Africa's club scene, marrying amapiano riffs, kwaito drops, and emo pop drips for a dizzying sound all his own, fittingly called dramapiano. When he's behind the decks, all bets are off, as he pulls rabbit after rabbit out of his hat - deep cuts from SA's sickest originators and diasporic creators around the globe bash into booming techno and jacking house. Keeping the floor vibrating, we welcome the French-born, sometimes Berlin-based producer and DJ, rRoxymore. Much like our opener, rRoxymore has carved out her very own sonic seat at the table. Touching on psychedelia, rhythmic grooves, acoustic instrumentation and space-laden synths in her productions, she too brings explorative spatiality to her time behind the booth. With unabashed energy, she glides from genre to genre, texture to texture, in a way that leaves listeners gleefully delirious. Safe to say, these two are going to give our sound system the time of its life.
