ZELDA
A techno artist whose story spans two continents and multiple cultures, Zelda is far from your run of the mill club DJ. The Netherlands-based US ex-pat has always been influenced by electronic music on a profound level, drawing inspiration from a selection of Techno’s most influential figures. Rising out of the late ‘90s across the DC, Maryland and Virginia area of the US, Zelda built a vinyl format sonic signature comprised of deep, melodic and driving Techno with a splash of Psy that focuses on hypnotic and perpetual grooves. Less industrial, and more in tune with the euphoric side of dance music - going hand in hand with the rave culture DJ Zelda was born from.
Some of her most notable influences come in the form of Secret Cinema, Egbert, Metodi Hristov, Speedy J, Len Faki, Chris Liebing, Josephine Wedekind and Sandrien, among others. A plethora of inspiration, fusing the most iconic parts of today's Techno world along with the journey that led it to be.
A clubland regular, Zelda’s performance resume includes the likes of the infamous Club Nation’s Buzz parties, The Edge, and Tracks in DC, Family Affair in Ohio, and Club Soma in Madrid. In 2019, Zelda won a DJ mix contest at Club Magistrat in The Hague, and she played there regularly until the end of the year. Having experienced the dancefloor as a dancer and as a performer, Zelda is now primarily focused on extending her reputation into a smaller target area as she looks to build on her newfound presence within the Dutch scene.
Going beyond just club appearances to her relationship with electronic music throughout the years, Zelda famously played a part in the protest against The Reducing Americans' Vulnerability to Ecstasy Act, commonly known as the RAVE Act, where she was a speaker at the Capitol in DC in 2002, and in 2000, she opened the first DJ school in the US: Metatrack Studios. She currently manages a multi-thousand member Amsterdam Techno Lovers Meetup and Techno Travelers, a group dedicated to exploring techno around the world. Zelda has remained present online by sharing her club and studio mixes -serving as a platform to express her standout musical taste.
More than just a selector; Zelda is a contributor to the electronic music community and a figure that instills genuine care for the togetherness that the culture itself brings. Zelda is a name that you can expect to stand the test of time in an ever-changing musical landscape, setting a fine example by doing what she does purely for the love of the music.
