Binary Salon 14: Delta_Ark and Şerife Wong
Wednesday, January 25th, 6pm - 9pm
Main Room / 21+ / Limited Capacity
Please join us for an evening of drinks, conversation, and collaboration. Our Binary Salons are a place where those artists working at the intersection of art + technology can come together to share ideas and practices. These Salons are for artists, by artists.
After a three year hiatus, Binary Salon 14 returns with a showcase focused on the current conversation of the “Nexus of Art and Artificial Intelligence.”
Join us on January 25th at 6PM for presentations by local Bay Area artists: Ari Kalinovski (they/them) and Şerife Wong (she/her). Ari Kalinovski is a creative technologist who runs △ARK studios, which creates 3D environments and simulations powered by AI. Şerife Wong is the founder of Icarus Salon, an art and research organization exploring the ethics of emerging technology, and uses research and activism as a medium of art to create performances, social sculptures, paintings, videos, happenings, and interactive web-based work.
Moderated by Meredith Wade, Senior Product Manager of AI Innovation at Adobe and co-hosted by an interactive artist Marpi, and Jeff Whitmore, founder of Public Works.
△ARK
AI Worlds: LLMs, 3DML, GameAI and RL in Art & Games
△ARK is an experimental atelier that explores near and far future scenarios where biological and ecological systems interweave with computer networks at the human and civic scale, often in the context of dramatic climate change (or cataclysm).
The studio draws influence from the Jewish Mystical tradition, ecological movements, post-cyberpunk literature, manga and anime, Japanese poetry and post-industrial music from China.

Narratives of Reduction: The Conceptual Limits of AI
Şerife (Sherry) Wong is a Turkish-Hawaiian artist working on AI governance. She is the founder of Icarus Salon, an art and research organization exploring the ethics of emerging technology. She advocates for justice in AI and more active roles for artists in policymaking. She has been a resident on AI at the Rockefeller Foundation Bellagio Center, a researcher at the Berggruen Institute, a jury member at Ars Electronica, and was selected as one of 100 Brilliant Women in AI Ethics. She is an affiliate of O'Neil Risk Consulting and Algorithmic Auditing where she helps companies address issues of fairness and bias in AI. She also is on the board of directors for Digital Peace Now, a member of Tech Inquiry, and an organizer of local Bay Area renegades with the Brass Tax. Şerife frequently collaborates with the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences(CASBS) at Stanford. Previously, she was an Artist in Residence and co-creator of the Impact Program at Autodesk Pier 9 and was assistant editor of Artnet Magazine.
Her work uses research and activism as a medium of art to create performances, social sculptures, paintings, videos, happenings, and interactive web-based work. She has had solo art exhibits in New York (I-20 Gallery), San Francisco, Vienna, and Mexico City; and exhibited internationally at venues such as Art Basel Miami, Shanghai Art Fair, FIAC Paris, ARCO Madrid, and Art Cologne.
