Sheeps with The Shocking and Stunning & F.A.I.R.Y

After a year packed with challenges and false starts, Sheeps are returning to Wellington’s Meow for a last hurrah / middle finger to 2022. Joining them in this endeavour are Electronic Post-Rock outfit The Shocking and Stunning and Garage Rock 4-piece F.A.I.R.Y.

Sheeps:
Sheeps remains an enigma within the Wellington music scene, rarely performing live and still without an official release after six years as a band. This is set to change, however, with both the band’s debut single and debut full-length album – recorded, mixed, and produced by respected Wellington producer/engineer James Goldsmith – due for release in 2023.

Though Sheeps was born from writing sessions between brothers/guitarists Dean & Simon Blackwell in an Oriental Bay basement in 2015, the band didn’t begin in earnest until the addition of third guitarist Grace Baker, drummer Thomas Friggens, and bassist Blain Fitzpatrick the following year. The band quickly amassed a following and began to draw comparisons to the shifting, evolving art rock structures of Radiohead, the affecting and often bleak lyricism of The Smiths, and the grandiose atmospherics of post-rock bands Jakob & Mogwai. In the years since, Sheeps’ following and profile have continued to grow, bolstered by their inclusion on the 2021-2022 lineup for legendary New Zealand music festival Twisted Frequency.

The Shocking and Stunning:
The Shocking and Stunning are Jack Hooker (synths/sampler) and Sam Lovrich-Fitzpatrick (drums). Described in Vanguard Red Magazine as “emotive, physically propulsive and above all, f***ing epic”, they combine densely layered synths and live drums to make wall-of-sound music that sits between dance, trance, noise, and drone.

F.A.I.R.Y:
F.A.I.R.Y is the combined effort of Harrison Scholes (Arjuna Oakes, Wiri Donna), Mary Dent, Alex Hannah, and Bianca Bailey (Wiri Donna, Lilith). The songs, composed and produced by Harry and Alex, transform into a devilish live act, ditching the drum machine for the powerful percussion section of Bianca and Mary. After finishing off their first ep, “Very Very Scary F.A.I.R.Y”, fresh out of lockdown, the band jumped into gigging with the likes of Dartz, Elliott Dawson, Hummicide, Mirror Ritual and Porpoise before releasing their album “F.*. *.R.Y” The band is currently working on their follow up album.
